South — this time all the way. While this one in McMurdo I did see another fat-tire bike at the South Pole, but didn’t get a snapshot… next time!

back in mcmurdo! despite optimism, we did not fly to the field on time… no big surprise and gives more time for enjoying nice things like hikes up observation hill, frosty boy, and maybe even a mountain bike ride!
happy birthday to you. happy birthday to you. happy birthday dear c. happy birthday to you!!! i wish that i drew this cute one, but have to credit the internets. a little rainy today, but being a birth day it is going to be glorious. croissants are waiting!
cyclopedia… i made it! too neat to be in art museum amongst bikes and bikers. exhibit included a pedersen, the buddy bike, a suitcase bike, the first recumbent, and one with a skate front. lots of classy racers. no christiania bike, but this cargo style is still going strong. of course this was in: portland! a bike themed weekend with pedal power prominent…
not the most representative, but a bikeholder for novi sad, serbia. thanks to i, c, and j for sunny adventures!
louisiana museum day with c and g. pink caviar… picnic! even a late afternoon peek at kronborg slot.
tandem tribute: the schwinn twinn! while this is not my picture (credit to the internets), i did see a twinn in salt lake city… and this is a placeholder until i can take my own photo, or get my own!
something doesn’t fit with the others! glad to be back in copenhagen and see more bikes. Sad to be away from california and see no more oranges…
First days in New Zealand and characterful bikes o’ plenty: a Penny Farthing in action(!), a blue Petersen export, and the loveliest taxi in town. Too busy touring Tasmania in Tintouin to find good bikes, but a terrific visit there too.
No new real bike spotting this year in Antarctica, but while delayed waiting for flight back I spotted this photo while reading one of many past-date National Geographic magazines.
ou est la rue saint michel? je ne comprende pas. despite language barriers it has been a fantastic frenzy of france/french/family fun. paris to perringnier to provence. of course we have found cheese, baguettes, lavender, wine, and even a frenchman wearing beret+suspenders.
salt lake city, utah. ski utah! what a splendid visit. my dear, welcoming friends, skiing uphill, packaged chicken, old friends, routine cooking/baking/eating, french (+wine), go to the upper hot springs, stout, arches, red rocks, canyoneering: “the innovative may get by with less”. and, neat bike racks all over the city!
bike spotted in the australian outback (or melbourne). while friend tours actual australia, i am in san francisco with the holder of an australian passport + old friends/family. stocking up on sunshine! hope the harsh winter has treated my schwinn better than the looks of this old friend.
takaka(ahhh), new zealand. the quiet revolution. chill out! what a wonderful time touring the south island. “go to golden bay”, stay left, bob marley, sheeps, mt. cook!, wine-decisions-wine, shambalah caravan, penguins?, it is good to have a french guy.
bikes in the white wilderness! for those following in southern california, i can make a good case that summer in antarctica has been more pleasant than winter in the northern hemisphere. yes, greetings from antarctica! great time. great team. and even a few bikes to be found on the dirt and ice roads of mcmurdo station, but mostly gar-ar-ing around are distinctly non-bike transport — for those less interested in modes of antarctic transport, the bottom snapshots are a better sampling of the experience. merry merry happy happy.
cambridge/oxford. bikes, and more bikes! no surprise in towns defining “college”. lovely visit to esteemed colleagues, and to oldest friend. most pictures from walking tour of oxford (pub/scotch and tea/scone stops inadequately represented).
nuuk, greenland. bike scenes and hike scenes. old town nuuk, river valley near kapisillit, kangia nunata sermia, and staggering fjord-scapes.
wedding weekend on sapelo island, georgia. iconic south: live oaks / spanish moss / reynold’s mansion / biking to swim in warm atlantic water.
portland, MAINE! bike + coffee. reunited with friends, and also with microbrews, baked goods as i know them, tacos, salted caramel ice cream, and trampolines.
the schwinndy city! i have been in chicago the past few days and there are very cool bikes, particularly schwinn bikes, *everywhere*. while helping my sister gather life bits for a new apartment, i have kept myself very entertained snapping shots of my bike’s brethren. no sportabout sightings, but i did note a traveler, a varsity, a racer, a super le tour, a prelude, and a sprint.
schwinn has a long history in the u.s.a., with a start in chicago in 1895.
